i'm looking for more bands with a similar sound to blonde redhead. i'm into the slower tempo stuff, the sort of sad sound, and the female vocals. also, if any bands like that sound sort of french all the better. any recommendations? thanks in advance.

Re: related music?
Fri, May 13, 2005 - 7:10 PMtry azure ray (burn & shiver is a good cd of theirs) & also lali puna (sounds very similar to azure ray). sigur ros is great! very relaxing .. their first album is best. Ladytron for when you're in the mood for something a bit more upbeat. Lovemakers are also fuN! (local band .. lead singer is a friend of my sister's! they play live quite a bit in the bay area and put on a great show!!!) for something mellow with female vocals & french lyrics - coracie clement - 'salle des pas perdus'
enjoy! :)

Wed, August 24, 2005 - 6:17 PMFWIW: Convo I had with a friend re: Asobi Seksu
Friend: Great band out of NYC! Imagine Sonic Youth meets My Bloody Valentine with a Japanese twist! Loud, soaring guitars, great drums and bass, and wonder female Japanese vocals. Check out their self titled debut.
Me: "Sonic Youth meets My Bloody Valentine with a Japanese twist!" I already found that band! they're called Blonde Redhead!
Friend: You know, as much as I love Blonde Redhead...they have nothing on Asobi Seksu! Asobi Seksu just has...a little more energy. And Yuki Chikudate actually sings in Japanese. -

Re: related music?
Fri, August 26, 2005 - 3:02 PMasobi seksu is good but i wouldn't say that blonde redhead has nothing on them. asobi has a tendency to be a bit more bubble gum at times. i'm thinking of "i'm happy but you don't like me" and "sooner" or "Taiyo". even "walk on the moon" which is a good song but could almost very well be commercially accepted. blonde redhead, at least older blonde redhead was either abit harder or abit more experimental. i think there is a huge focus on the last two albums from blonde redhead (which are great in their on right) especially misery, and the previous efforts tend to take the back seat. many of the bands listed here don't remind of blonde redhead at all actually. maybe blonde redhead today, but blonde redhead collectively? never! sorry deborah you did say with a japanese twist! i just got myself into a goddamn fit!!!!

Sun, June 10, 2007 - 1:43 PMTV On the Radio - male vocal, but very high, and VERY unique.
Twilight Singers - male vocal, but oh sweet melancholia.
Anja Garbarek - an amazing female vocalist, walking on thin lines.
Arcade Fire - male vocal, but you just have to listen to them too! -
