i've heard a fair amount of blonde redhead and loved all of it. i don't know which albums are which at all, and needless to say i don't own any. it's time to buy some blonde redhead, but i don't know where to start. can anyone point me in the right direction? do their different albums have different qualities? is there any one that's hailed as supreme?
thanks!

  • In my humble opinion "In an expression of the inexpressible" is their quintessential album. "Mia Vita Violenta" is also great, and a bit more raw. The new one is heart rendering and mellower, but also a new fave...
    • The first Blonde Redhead album I bought (and made me fall head-over-heels for them) was "Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons." I went on to hear the rest of them and though they all have their merits, this one and the new "Misery Is A Butterfly" are to me the most fully-formed and distinct works of art by this band. Either one would be an excellent first purchase--"Melody" is dryer and darker and more musically spare, while "Misery" engages in more traditional songforms and exquisitely dense sonics (it is on 4AD after all).
      • very nicely worded, lil'. "melody" was also my first bh buy. i was pleasantly pleased & impressed when "misery" was released tho it is a bit more mainstream-sounding than older stuff.

america's fave - if you want to find bh cd's that have the songs you know you like, i'd suggest grabbing a handful of their cd's and playing them at a listening booth @ ameoba .. (i can easily spend hours previewing cd's @ amoeba .. it's great!)
